A word about our scents and colours:

It is extremely important to us that we ensure the safety of our customers when it comes to ingredients and because of this we do extensive research on the scents and colours we use in our products. For all of our cosmetic ingredients we rely on the Environmental Working Groups Skin Deep database, utilizing only those ingredients that fall within their safe zone. We also only use those ingredients that fall under the ECO cert and COSMO certification guidelines to further ensure that we’re keeping you safe.  All of our scents are created by blending organic essential oils and organic natural flavour extracts. We use no artificial fragrances in any of our products.

To colour our products we use mineral pigments as cosmetic colorants. These include: Mica, Titanium Dioxide, and Iron Oxides. These minerals are inorganic substances that are naturally derived and mined from the earth. However, after much research it has been found that these mineral pigments are not safe when taken directly from the earth. Natural micas and oxides frequently are contaminated with heavy metals that are not safe for the human body. Because of this, Health Canada requires that all mica and oxide pigments used in cosmetics must be synthetically made. The colourants we choose to use are what is referred to as “nature identical” which means that they have been created in a lab to be identical to those in nature, sans the toxic heavy metals. While these are technically synthetic all our research indicates they are safe for use and in fact the colours we choose to use are ECO and COSMOS certified ensuring that we are sourcing the safest, purest and highest performing ingredients available. We believe that there is a place for ‘safe synthetics’ in cosmetics and that not all synthetics are harmful, just as not all naturally derived ingredients are safe.
