Tilia Botanicals is Your Centre for Herbal Learning

Tilia is pleased to be able to offer fun & educational classes and special events in many aspects of the herbal culture. Classes include topics such as how to make herbal remedies; growing herbs; plant ID and harvest wild plants;  aromatherapy, making soap and personal care items; how to cook with herbs, and wild food foraging. We have even offered summer camps for kids! Our teachers are all experts in their field and joyfully share their passion for plants and natural health with event participants.

At Tilia we absolutely love sharing our passion for herbs, healthy living, creativity and more.  Our list of classes over the years continues to grow as we try to offer something for everyone.  Whether you are interested in making your own natural cosmetics or home remedies, identifying healing plants in the wild, gardening, or even want to get your young ones learning about nature we are happy to help! Relax, Refresh, Revive:

 

Isn't it time for you to practice a little self-care and have some “me” time? This fun class is a perfect way to practice your self-pampering skills. Enjoy some tea and scones while you learn to make wonderful herbal teas, baths, facials and aromatherapy blends specially designed to relax, refresh and revive you! Be your own Valentine and pamper yourself with a fully rejuvenating experience or bring a friend and save 10%.

All supplies are included. Please bring a towel with you and wear casual clothing suitable for having a facial in.

FREE EVENT

 

Communities Pulling Together & Medicinal and Edible Invasive Plant Workshop
 

Join the Central Kootenay Invasive Species Society and Tilia Botanicals for an engaging workshop focusing on the fascinating world of medicinal and edible invasive plants. Discover how these plants, that pose significant threats to native ecosystems can be transformed into valuable resources while helping to protect our local natural environment. 

 

DATE: Thursday, September 5/24   6:00 PM – 8:00 PM

COST: FREE (Pre-registration required, only 20 spots available) 

LOCATION: meet at main entrance College of the Rockies, Creston BC

This FREE event will provide you with hands-on learning experiences about invasive plants, including:

  • Invasive Species 101: Understand what invasive species are, their impacts, and how they spread.

  • Best Management Practices: Learn effective methods for harvesting and disposing of invasive plants to prevent their spread.

  • Invasive Plant ID: Gain skills in identifying various invasive species in our area.

 

After an informative presentation by Laurie Frankcom from CKISS, we will head out to a nearby site to apply our knowledge by mechanically removing invasive plants. This practical session will be followed by a hands-on workshop led by Rachel Beck, a medical herbalist from Tilia Botanicals. Rachel will demonstrate how to repurpose invasive plants into teas, oils, salves, and tinctures, explaining their medicinal benefits along the way.

Fall Herbal "Apprentice" Workshop

 

​Join us for this incredibly fun and informative day where you get to be an herbal apprentice for a day. The morning will see you  on an herb gathering outing where you will learn about a range of herbal plants and how best to harvest them. You’ll bring your herbal harvest back to our classroom where herbalist and Tilia co-owner Rachel Beck will share more about the plants you have harvested and help you to create your own natural remedies. Refreshments included.

 

DATE: Sunday September 22/24   10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

COST: $99 + GST (this class is limited in size and fills up very quickly. Please register early to assure a place in the class)

INSTRUCTORS: Stephanie Howes of Cedar & Sage Pantry will be co-facilitating this class and she brings experience and enthusiasm in plant outdoor activities and harvesting to all that she does. Rachel Beck has been a medical herbalist for over 30 years and she is passionate about herbs and sharing this love with other. She owns Tilia’s Botanicals herbal apothecary and gift shop in Creston BC.

Egg Dyeing for Kids:

 

In this hands-on class your kids will learn how to dye their own Easter eggs using plant materials. They'll get creative using plants and other common household materials to make fun designs.  Full instructions will be included so you can repeat the process of natural egg dyeing at home for Easter holidays to come!

Ages 5 - 7  9:00 am – noon      Ages 8 - 12   1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

INSTRUCTOR:

Jessica Shearer is a Medical Herbalist and has been involved in children's programs for over 10 years.  She is the coordinator for our successful Kids' Camp and loves to develop activities to create interest and excitement when learning about plants.

Soap Making

Christmas isn’t that far off, and soap makes wonderful gifts, so get a start on creating unique and personalized presents this year. In this fun and informative class, you will learn how to make your very own handcrafted soap bars.  In this class we will demonstrate all the proper techniques for successful, safe soap making, including the important troubleshooting tips to help.  You will leave with not only your own bars of soap that we've made in class but a kit to take home so that you can get started on your own soap making adventures!

DATE: Wednesday, October 23/24   6:00 pm - 9:00 pm 

 

COST: $79 + GST (includes kit)

 

INSTRUCTOR: Co-owner of Tilia Botanicals, Rachel Beck has been making handcrafted soap for over 30 years and is the creative force behind Tilia's wonderful soap collection.  In all her workshops she aims to create a captivating and fun environment for you to truly enjoy learning a new skill.

Cancellation Policy: Our instructors put a great deal of work into preparing our classes so that you have an amazing learning experience. Because of this our classes are popular and it is not unusual for us to having waiting lists for our classes. In an effort to be fair to everyone we have created a cancellation policy that we believe recognizes our instructors’ efforts while respecting the reality that sometimes you need to cancel after you register.

 

If you cancel at least 7 days prior to the class you will receive a full refund less a 5% administration fee.

 

If you cancel between 6 days and 48 hours prior to the class you will receive a 50% refund.

 

If you cancel with less than 48 hours’ notice or if a course has already started there is no refund.
