Tilia Botanicals is Your Centre for Herbal Learning

Tilia is pleased to be able to offer fun & educational classes and special events in many aspects of the herbal culture. Classes include topics such as how to make herbal remedies; growing herbs; plant ID and harvest wild plants;  aromatherapy, making soap and personal care items; how to cook with herbs, and wild food foraging. We even offer summer camps for kids! Our teachers are all experts in their field and joyfully share their passion for plants and natural health with event participants.

LOOKING FOR SOMETHING SPECIAL?

We host great private events including birthday parties (children and adult), pamper parties for bridal or baby showers; family reunion activities and we even offer private group classes for 4 or more people on any topic of your choice. We would love to create a unique event just for you and your friends.

At Tilia we absolutely love sharing our passion for herbs, healthy living, creativity and more.  Our list of classes over the years continues to grow as we try to offer something for everyone.  Whether you are interested in making your own natural cosmetics or home remedies, identifying healing plants in the wild, gardening, or even want to get your young ones learning about nature we are happy to help! Relax, Refresh, Revive:

 

Isn't it time for you to practice a little self-care and have some “me” time? This fun class is a perfect way to practice your self-pampering skills. Enjoy some tea and scones while you learn to make wonderful herbal teas, baths, facials and aromatherapy blends specially designed to relax, refresh and revive you! Be your own Valentine and pamper yourself with a fully rejuvenating experience or bring a friend and save 10%.

All supplies are included. Please bring a towel with you and wear casual clothing suitable for having a facial in.

Plant Identification in the Wild:

Have you ever found yourself wondering “what is that plant?” when you are out on a nature walk and, despite flipping through guide books, you still can’t figure out the plant's name? Naturalist Kim Asquith and Herbalist Jessica Shearer will teach you the techniques for identifying medicinal and food plants in the wild so you can have success when you go on your own. This is an invaluable class for anyone wanting to forage for wild food and medicinal plants as it helps to reduce the risk of misidentification. Dress for all types of weather and terrain.

INSTRUCTOR: Naturalist Kim Asquith is a former instructor of the College of the Rockies and is an expert in the field of botany.  Since retiring she enjoys continuing her passion on many hikes and nature walks alike.  Herbalist Jessica Shearer shares in the delight of finding and identifying medicinal plants along the trails and noting the wonderful things they can do for our health.

Medicinal Plants, Wild Foods, Mushrooms and More

 

Did you know that nettles can help relieve allergies, tinder conk mushrooms support immune health, and cattails can be used to make pancakes? The Creston Valley is jam packed with amazing medicinal and culinary plants and wild harvester Leigha D’Amico will take you out into
the wild and introduce you to these amazing plants. This walk is on reasonably level ground and is suitable for most fitness levels so it is a great chance for you to get out and learn about the wonderful natural treasures in our Valley.

Instructor: Leigha D’Amico is an herb enthusiast and wild harvester who can be found wandering the wild and leading herb walks in Central Alberta where she resides. She is passionate about the uses of wild plants and in particular all types of wild mushrooms. She is a dynamic speaker and loves sharing her joy for plants of all kinds.

All Day Herbal “Apprentice” Workshop:

Join us for this incredibly fun and informative day where you get to be an herbal apprentice for a day. The morning will see you join herbalists Michael Niezen and Jessica Shearer on an herb gathering outing where you will learn about a range of herbal plants and how best to harvest them. You’ll bring your herbal harvest back to our classroom and then spend the rest of the day with Rachel Beck learning how to create herbal remedies from your herbal bounty. Learn all about the herbs you harvest while you make your very own remedies and other fun creations to take home. And of course Rachel (who always has to feed everyone!) will be sharing delicious culinary treats made from fresh herbs that are in season. Don’t miss out on this exciting adventure. As spaces are limited and this class always fills quickly, we recommend you registerearly so you don’t miss out.

INSTRUCTORS: Michael Neizen is a practicing herbalist, wild harvester and owner of Fort Steele Counselling and Phytotherapy. His love of plants and respect for nature shines through in his teaching and we know you’ll share his enthusiasm for the plants after sharing time with him.

 

Both Jessica Shearer and Rachel Beck are medical herbalists and co-owners of Tilia Botanicals.  In addition to Tilia, both have their own private practices and Rachel is owner of Natural Options in Education, offering herbal education programs.

Egg Dyeing for Kids:

 

In this hands-on class your kids will learn how to dye their own Easter eggs using plant materials. They'll get creative using plants and other common household materials to make fun designs.  Full instructions will be included so you can repeat the process of natural egg dyeing at home for Easter holidays to come!

Jessica Shearer is a Medical Herbalist and has been involved in children's programs for over 10 years.  She is the coordinator for our successful Kids' Camp and loves to develop activities to create interest and excitement when learning about plants.

Kid’s Herbal Birthday Celebration

 

A fun and creative way to celebrate a birthday. Kids get to create their own individualized soaps, bath bombs, and more. For ages 5 to 12 years old, parties will be tailored to meet the participants’ age abilities. Contact us for more information on how to customize your perfect birthday.

We’ll also sign you up right at the store; we’re always happy when you stop in to see us!

Cancellation Policy: Our instructors put a great deal of work into preparing our classes so that you have an amazing learning experience. Because of this our classes are popular and it is not unusual for us to having waiting lists for our classes. In an effort to be fair to everyone we have created a cancellation policy that we believe recognizes our instructors’ efforts while respecting the reality that sometimes you need to cancel after you register.

 

If you cancel at least 7 days prior to the class you will receive a full refund less a 5% administration fee.

 

If you cancel between 6 days and 48 hours prior to the class you will receive a 50% refund.

 

If you cancel with less than 48 hours’ notice or if a course has already started there is no refund.
